High blood sugar is only a symptom of diabetes and not the actual cause. Diabetes is caused by excess of insulin. This hormone, insulin, is responsible for reducing the levels of blood sugar. For this hormone to work efficiently it is important that the tissues are sensitive to the action. The first organ to stop responding to insulin is the liver when insulin resistance sets in. Diet is the main culprit of this insulin resistance. You need to understand what food can cause diabetes in order to prevent this.

Causes of Type-1 diabetes and Type-2 diabetes are different. Understanding this is important.
